VLTC tournament for junior players

The Vittoriosa Lawn Tennis Club (VLTC) has just organised its annual Junior Open, a tournament played under the auspices of the Malta Tennis Federation and sponsored by San Michel.

The club was a hive of activity as the competition progressed with a good number of promising and enthusiastic junior players, aged between eight and 15, vying for the honours in various singles and doubles events.

In the U-10 girls singles, Heline Pellicano beat Emily Lightfoot in a tightly contested match. The U-10 boys’ title went to Benjamin Farrugia. He dominated his category to emerge clear winner with Miguel Galea finishing runner-up.

The final of the U-12 boys singles was similarly keenly contested with Benjamin Farrugia having the better of Zack Ciappara in three sets, 4-6 7-6 6-3.

The U-14 and U-16 titles were won by Rebecca McCarthy and Raphael Sammut.

In doubles, Sammut teamed up with Patrick Giorgiev to clinch the title at the expense of Robert Montanaro Gauci and Atwair Malik.
