I think the government deserves a pat on the back for the commissioning of the restoration work being carried out on our fortifications.

This work is being carried out most professionally and yielding instant results. Now one cannot help appreciate the beauty and majesty of the work initially commissioned by the Knights of Malta so many centuries ago.

How lucky we are that such a small island as ours still possesses a large number of craftsmen capable of carrying out such delicate work for posterity! Renovating such vast walls, spread over a number of kilometres, is no mean feat. However, I just cannot understand why it would seem the beautiful city of Senglea, with its majestic gardjola, a focal point of anything Maltese, seem to have been overlooked under the current programme.

The state of the stonework is deteriorating fast and the gardjola seems to be under a lot of stress structurally. I plead with the government to direct some of the renovation work towards our proud city before irreparable damage is caused.
