Forthcoming EU-related events
September 21 - 23, Adapting to global change at the coast: leadership, innovation and investment, London.
Across the world coasts are dynamic and ever-changing. In recent years, an improved understanding of natural processes has generated new concepts in the management of coastal landforms, water bodies and ecosystems.
However, social and economic changes, which are just as important in providing the context for sustainable management, cannot be overlooked. The event will look at three themes: Global Change and Managing Environmental Risk, Developing the Marine and Coastal Economy and Tackling Inequality in Coastal Communities.

September 23, Regional strategies on active ageing workshop, Brussels.
Regions in Europe often lack strategies dealing with the issues of demographic development and ageing. Mostly they still see both as a threat rather than an opportunity. The latter, though, offers opportunities for new services and products. This can boost companies and regional service providers, helping them to gain competitive advantages over competitors in other regions and eventually creating new jobs and employment.
The main objectives of the regional strategies on active ageing workshop are to develop a European exchange of information on activities and initiatives in different European regions, and identify areas for cooperation which may lead to the establishment of partner consortia, as well as to develop and submit project proposals to European Commission funding programmes.

October 7 – 8, MORE4NRG Seminar 2010, Pescara.
With the 20-20-20 goals now incorporated in the Europe 2020 Strategy, the EU is pursuing an ambitious climate and energy policy leading to sustainable territories. Sustainable territories however, can only be achieved if all regional and local stakeholders make calculated efforts through intra-regional cooperation. Intra-regional cooperation is crucial for regions, cities and municipalities and sets out a new way of thinking for better quality of life and well-being.
This form of cooperation, although local or regional, will serve as a model for the creation of sustainable territories at the European level.
