Cospicua are the winners of the Freedom Day regatta as the Cottonera outfit won the last two races in the Open Class to overhaul early leaders Marsa in the final standings.

Cospicua trailed Marsa by 12 points after the opening three races but victory in the Kajjiki and the crucial ‘Dgħajjes B Tal-Pass’ races enabled them to leapfrog their rivals in the overall standings as they amassed 72 points.

Favourites Marsa had to settle with second place when totaling 56 points while Senglea placed third with 34 points.

In the ‘B’ Category, reserved for young rowers, Birżebbuġa were the runaway winners as they cruised to victory with an overall score of 72 points.

Marsa placed second on 42 points ahead of Cospicua (32) and Senglea (26).
