Obituary
BARTOLO. On September 6, Dr JOSEPH BARTOLO, BA, LLD, of Mellieħa, aged 76, passed away, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Victoria, his sons Anton and Ivan, their spouses, grandchildren, brothers and sisters, in-laws and their families, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves St Vincent de Paul residence tomorrow at 2.30 p.m. for Mellieħa parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 3.30 p.m., followed by interment at the Omm il-Ħniena Cemetery, Mellieħa. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be much appreciated.
TABONE ADAMI. On September 6, Notary PAUL TABONE ADAMI, of Sliema, aged 51, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his uncles Joe, Reginold and Maurice Abela and his aunt Terry and her husband Joe Pantalleresco, cousins, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 9 a.m. for Stella Maris parish church, Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 9.30 a.m. followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Lord grant him eternal rest.

Heritage journalism award
Submissions for Din l-Art Ħelwa’s 2010 Built and Natural Heritage Journalism Award for journalistic work that has made an outstanding and significant contribution to the better appreciation of the built and natural environment of the Maltese Islands within the past year must be made by September 30. Entries from television, radio online services are also accepted.
Two awards will actually be given: the first for written articles or TV/radio broadcasts regarding Malta and Gozo’s built environment, including historic buildings, monuments, archaeological sites and the vernacular character of the towns and villages, and the second for written articles or TV/radio broadcasts dealing with the natural heritage covering the appreciation of Malta’s natural environment and landscapes, including open spaces, maritime heritage, flora and fauna and natural resources.
To be eligible for inclusion, the work or series of works or productions must have been published or aired in Malta within the 12 months period up to August 31, 2010.
Submissions must be received at the offices of Din l-Art Ħelwa, at 133, Melita Street, Valletta by September 30 and the winners will be announced in November.

Aid to Unicef
The Westin Dragonara Resort and Le Meridien St Julians will be holding a fund-raising lunch BBQ on September 19 at Le Meridien St Julians with all proceeds going to Unicef to support Starwood’s Road to Awareness campaign. Thanks to such initiatives, next year 1,500 children in South Africa will receive a better education and improve their prospects for the future. Starwood’s funding will help Unicef improve conditions in schools and help guarantee that schools are safe and protective environments where children can realise their full potential. The fund raising BBQ starts at noon.
