For accuracy’s sake I have to correct Karl Flores (September 1) and reiterate that the message of Marianne Pace in her letter was precisely not to allow dogs on beaches and not to allow them to swim alongside children. Besides, I try never to leave letters verging on animal cruelty (even if subtly), to go unanswered.
I never said that dogs should be left running free at the seaside or anywhere else, for that matter. And this, especially for their own safety.
Allow me, yet again, to point out the fact that many human beings do their best to find fault in animals and in their presence and they try to instil this feeling in their offspring and in the people around them. No wonder we find such animal cruelty around us. I am afraid that people like Ms Pace and Mr Flores are two such species.
The latter clearly shows how much he loves dogs (sic) when he suggests that dogs should be taken to swim in out-of-the-way places and in the evening! Nothing can be more denigrating than that.
Finally, he accuses me of lacking in care for others but, in turn, I accuse him of lack of consideration for animals in general as well as for those many people who feel that their lives were made even richer with animals around them.
This is all I have to say about this subject.
