Strike in France delays Malta flight for Girona
Passengers on board this morning’s Ryanair flight to Girona, scheduled to leave Malta at 9.25 a.m. are still waiting for the flight to take off.
The passengers were boarded as usual but were told that the aircraft had lost its slot as a result of a strike by air traffic controllers in France.
The airline will now have to wait until it is given another slot before it can leave Malta for its destination.

Strike over France and Ryanair grounds it's airplanes!!! Just one question. Is it the same airspace that our national airline flies over?? As I am watching the Airmalta flight from Paris Orly is landing on time. Well done Airmalta, maybe we pay a few more euros, but our minds are always at rest.

Wow! I can call myself lucky then! I returned to Malta from Girona on the very same plane this morning. It was bang on time.

This means that Ryan Air did not make any contingency plans. if the flight to Girona was flying on the French airspace the airline could have easily used other country airspaces. other airlines are definitely using different routings to their final destination. interesting to see what Ryan Air will do with is Luton flight since this flight certainly passes through French airspace on its way to Malta.

Excuse me but what has the flight to Girona which is in Spain, got to do with France? This is not the first time the same flight was delayed. It happened to me last March on my way to Madrid, a delay of over 3 hours to depart, not to mention that we took on all stranded passengers from the Girona flight and to top it all off we were told after departing that we would be landing in Majorca for refueling, since we did not have enough to get to Madrid !. Really shoddy service from RyanAir. Needless to say, that was the first and last time I used them for my travelling.

It is useless to blaim Ryanair!!! As for the strike ...remember that to arrive in Spain, you are entering France airspace; hence air traffic controllers!

Due to the strike in France, the planes departing from Girona could not leave; that is, they had to stay put on the tarmac... then obviously, other planes which were supposed to land and take their 'parking' slot could not lend.
Flight delays happen everywhere and all the time; and for your information, actually Ryanair have quite a decent record for on time arrivals.

With a small deviation, the flight could have avoided French airspace altogether. But that would probably cost a few dollars more....... and they would probably need some extra manpower in their offices to handle the situation.

@G Casha
You pay for what you get! A cheap flight will reflect a cheap service.
@Chris Frendo
I would not be too happy about Ryanair having a " a decent record for on time arrivals" as firstly they fly to secondary airports where a flight does not need to wait for a slot and/or it is much easier to get a slot. Can you possibly compare Luton or Malta airport to Heathrow?! Hence it is much easier for an airline to keep good arrival times... when compared to airlines such as Airmalta who flight to busy airports such as Gatwick and Heathrow.
In addition, if one notices the flying time for Ryanair, it is slightly longer when compared to other airlines... for the same route..strange isn't it! Of course so that it lands before and we can say how efficient and fast they are !
