A man who is accused of smashing a glass into another person's face was remanded in custody by a court today.

Liam Grech, 22 of Hamrun, was accused of having grievously injured Matthew Abela in the incident, which took place in Rinella on Saturday night.

He denied the charges.

The defence argued that what happened was an accident as Mr Grech helped Mr Abela when he fell to the ground.

Bail was denied until witnesses are heard and the two men are medically examined.
