Taking customers for a ride (2)
It was only by chance that I happened to find out that Melita had increased its pre-paid rates for mobile telephony.
While extensively promoting its pre-paid rates of 22c per minute charged according to the duration of the call in seconds, I did not hear anything about the fact that its charges have now increased.
It was only while browsing the internet that I found out that Melita had raised its rate to 24c per minute and we are now being charged for every 30 seconds of call-time.
I suppose this means that I will be charged 12c irrelevant of how long my call will be, so long as it is less than 30 seconds.
Is this the way that customers should be treated? It’s truly a case of Melita thinking that customers can be easily and foolishly taken for a ride.

has anyone received a text message like me being told they were abusing of the serivce since after signing a 2 year contract with melita saying i had unlimited minutes to any 5 numbers they then decided i was abusing as they said there was a clause somewhere in the contract granting a max of 8 hours.... if this is the case melita should change both their salesmen and their adverts as they both advertised loud and clear UNLIMITED.... unlimited is unlimited you don t make us sign and then put limits !!!!

If the company is promising 'Unlimited' and then defining it as '8 hours,' then it is guilty of false advertising. One cannot abuse 'unlimited' calling. Unlimited means you can talk all day if you so wish. Is there a consumer watchdog out there?

Agreed.
Following criticism that our rates are the highest in the EU (2008) due to the "mobile termination rates" charged by MCA, the same MCA gave us a table showing this is not true.
However, they failed to tell us what they are doing (if anything) to see why we have the highest rates (now even higher for Melita subscribers) in the EU and whether or not there is now a cartel.

If you find Melita so objectionable, why do you choose to stay with them? More fool you!
