Although much has already been written about the character, career and attributes of the late Guido de Marco, I felt I must register my sense of deep loss at his demise, having been chosen by him as his personal security man and later security driver for 23 years.

Having been so close to Prof. de Marco, I not only came to love and respect him but can also say that I learned a lot from him, especially in handling situations involving statesmen and other important personalities. I also accompanied him on five official visits abroad, where I also learned from security arrangements in place for such occasions in various countries. Prof. and Mrs de Marco and their family always treated me as one of their own and I always tried to repay them by serving them loyally and faithfully.

I can never forget Prof. de Marco’s generosity and warmth and I shall remember him fondly as long as I live.
