High-ropes project inaugurated
Video: Paul Spiteri Lucas
A high-rope sports project was inaugurated at the Ghajn Tuffieha Scouts camping site this morning.
The project, inaugurated by Sports Parliamentary Secretary Clyde Puli, was part financed by the government to the tune of 35,000 euros.
Mr Puli praised scout organisations, which, he said, helped in the formation of young people.

I would like to thank contributors for comments made on the Scout Association of Malta.
Understanding the value of money is of course one of the many things Scouts are taught and the individual Scout Groups practice this principle when they organise their own fundraising activities to generate the revenue needed to pay Energy Bills, maintain their HQs and Equipment, etc etc. To meet with these challenges the Scout Association has moved on from the bob-a-job days. Scout Groups have since become more creative to obtain funds to cover the much higher costs to ensure their smooth operation.
Many Groups work hard in the community without receiving any remuneration. Charity NGOs are in constant contact with the Association with requests for assistance in their many projects. The Association is very active in the Community Chest Fund and was able to raise over 12,000 Euro during the last Istrina.
I would like take the opportunity to thank the Hon Clyde Puli for recognising the voluntary work undertaken by the Scouts and helping in this unique project.

Mr. Puli. Wouldn't it have been a better idea had the scouts worked for part if not all of the money. Like cleaning up beaches and roads, pavements, monuments etc., I remember when I was a scout, we used to work for the money, like washing cars, cleaning gardens, washing facades of houses etc., (Bob a job). Like that we used to know the value of money.

You have to wash an awful lot of cars to gather €35,000.
Anyway, the article states that it was PART financed by the government, so presumably the scouts had to fork out a certain amount themselves, or find sponsorship elsewhere.

unfortunately most of the comments below were actually directed in response to a misplaced comment regarding expenditure towards the welfare of animals.
Unfortunately, Mr. Franco Farrugia may have a lack of information regarding Scouts in general.
Otherwise, he would have known that Scouting itself promotes loving the environment. From the age of 5 years, scouts are taught and encouraged to care for pets and wildlife. It is part of the training and one of the basic scouting principles has always been to respect the environment we live in. This starting from 1907, and is true to the present day.
One may understand that the financial investment mentioned below is quite sizeable. It must be noted that that Scouts are a self-financed organisation which has no commercial interests. It is also one of the few organisations which accepts members from any walk of life, without discrimination to religious, political, race and other divisions which occur in society.
it promotes social responsibility, volunteering, first aid and skills which make better citizens. In turn, this becomes an indirect investment in people who amongst other things, will take care of animals and the environment.

So proud, our boys deserve all the adventure they can get. Yet another milestone for scouts in Malta.
On safety checks with scouts this is guaranteed, as we never take risks, but always take all the precautions in whatever activity.
If only the movement where supported more then our children would have a place where they can grow up as individual independent men, prepared to face all.
This as once a scout always a scout.

Let us just hope that regular safety checks are made on all the equipment. Apart from that good luck to all the scouts and enjoy.
