Sea cadets tour the USS Laboon
Sea cadets were this afternoon treated to a tour on board the USS Laboon, which leaves Malta tomorrow following a three-day visit.
The navy ship, which is taking part in an anti-piracy missision, sailed into Grand Harbour on Wednesday to provide its crew with a few days of rest and recuperation.
Some of its crew members this morning carried out voluntary work at the Marsa Open Centre and Selmun beach.

The Royal Marines Cadets Detachment is part of the Malta GC Unit of the Sea Cadet Corps. The Detachment is administered by the Parent Unit TS St. Paul who in turn is administered by the Marine Society & Sea Cadets (MSSC) in the UK. Although the Detachment has extremely close ties with the Royal Marines it is not part of this Corps, and therefore allows females to join as is the policy of the Sea Cadet Corps. Just for accuracy the Royal Marines do have females within their ranks but so far only in the Band Service and the medical branch. 26 Sea and Marine Cadets have just returned from the UK after spending a week of RYA sailing and powerboat training at the Sea Cadet Boating Station in Thrapston and a further week at Beckingham Army training Camp with X-Ray Coy of the UK Royal Marines Cadets. More then 100 qualifications were gained during these two weeks by the Maltese youngsters. The Malta GC Unit would like to thank all its sponsors and Staff for providing such unique training opportunities for our Cadets. Many thanks to the crew of USS Laboon for a most memorable visit on board.

***Steven Camilleri.....
Nothing astonishing about these Sea Cadets. For your
information these Cadets have just returned from Englang after attending
a three weeks course with the Royal Marines and they obtained prestigious
results. Good luck to you all.

Nevertheless your comment sounds very sexist. If you want to learn here's a link

would be interesting to know how many women their are in the Royal Marines Mrs Cachia, would be interested to see how they would surpase the tarzan course, cause believe me , i never seen any Woman Royal Marines, and i did meet more then you would ever dream , and im not speaking about these boy scouts , responding to the above comment, yes as a matter of fact the Maltese branch have always done very very good in the courses set up her,i can testify to that.

Well done Sea Cadets Malta! These young people are taught discipline and hard work but have a lot of fun too! They are trained in sailing, power boating, meteorology, life saving and many more subjects pertaining to the navy and army. Best of all they are trained in discipline something which is lacking in our youths, I must congratulate all the men and women who take care of this unit for their work in taking under their wing young maltese boys and girls who show an affinity to the army and navy. They do a sterling job which is all voluntary.
