First playground up to MSA standards inaugurated at Munxar
The first playground that conforms to standards established by the Malta Standards Authority has been inaugurated at Munxar.
The Munxar council has benefitted from several schemes offered by the government to implement the Ġuże’ Aquilina Garden project, in which €219,000 have been invested.
The garden will be generating alternative energy and providing free WiFi.
Parliamentary Secretary Chris Said said the government was assisting councils in the implementation of 15 special projects, forking out €237,000, through a purposely set up scheme.
He said that between last year and this year, the government would also have invested €615,000 in incentives to council to produce alternative energy.
Dr Said said that 21 contracts were signed in April for the implementation of project valued €900,000 in 17 localities.

Come on you lot of commentators! Don’t be so negative!
Munxar Authorities need to be congratulated on a splendid addition to the amenities of their village. It doesn’t matter how long it took, it is done now, it looks great and the kids will love it!
Well done to everyone involved!

Well done! Hopefully more local councils will follow.
Case in point the Marsascala playground is looking more like a dilapidated area, than a safe place where one can take children to play. The latest addition being a chain and a padlock to cut off part of the architecture of the toddlers slide area, due part of one of the platforms collapsing. The rest is not in a better state with an almost jammed merry go round. Out of 3 baby/toddler swings one is missing. Another structure were kids can climb on is very shakey, to say the least as we are expecting to fall over any day. Not to mention kids running around with bike and playing football when there is a sign on both entrances advising not to do so, however no one is enforcing this. This not to mention the shabby state of the grounds itself, surrounding establishments use part of the grounds to lay their tables and chairs.
In my humble, non professional opinion, being a parent this playground is in urgent need of a refurbishment, before someone gets hurt, unless that is what's needed for something to be done.

Compare this to the Attard playground (the former railway station), where the worn-down soft tiles where replaced by rough concrete.

Your statement is completely untrue...the worn out surface (it gets worn out yes!) was replaced completely ages ago and is still in perfect condition... it was never replaced by concrete...it seems you haven't been to the garden for ages...

The Munxar council has benefitted from several schemes offered by the government to implement the Ġuże’ Aquilina Garden project.........and also from the infinite patience of the Munxar residents!!!! How many years did it take to be completed and inaugurated??

Great News after 45 years from the first suggestion for this property to be turned into a playing field. But one wonders why was such a small part (not more than the size of one building plot) of the original land was left out and cut from the rest of the playing field. Surely, having it incorporated with the playing field, it would have made the playing field larger and look more complete. More this left over plot being also Government property,( read, no need of expropriation or other) the value it would have contributed towards the common good of the locality would have been much greater than the "xkora patata u hemel silla" that it will produce in a year. This manouvere contrast too much with what Onor. Jason Azzopardi was saying this week on Net about putting to use the public property to the common good in the occasion of the repossession of the public property in the case of the Siggiewi Labour party club. What is in the cooking??? Surely it is not planned for building of social housing!!!

When will the Mtarfa playground be inaugurated? The Local Council presented the plan to MEPA in February 2009 as the billboards state. But to date nothing has been done. Mtarfa residents too have children who would love a decent and safe playground to enjoy.
