Boy, 9, badly injured in fall

A nine-year-old boy suffered head injuries when he fell a height of one storey into the yard of the Mellieħa summer school he attends at about noon yesterday.

Sources said the boy, from Mellieħa, lost his balance and fell into the school’s playground, about 10 courses below. Blood was noticed coming out of his ears, the sources said, adding that a doctor from the Mellieħa clinic was on site within five minutes from the fall.

An ambulance rushed the young boy to hospital where he was found to be suffering serious head injuries, including a concussion. The police reported just before 2 p.m. that he was in critical condition but about five hours later they said the boy was no longer on the danger list.

Duty Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani was informed about the case. She appointed a number of court experts to assist her with the inquiry.

The police are investigating.
