Helping hand
The US navy’s USS Laboon sailed into Grand Harbour yesterday for a brief visit to provide the crew with a few days of rest and an opportunity to enjoy the local historical and cultural treasures. In keeping with the navy’s traditions, members of the crew have volunteered to participate in a community relations project at the Marsa Open Centre and a beach clean-up at Selmun Bay. USS Laboon will also work with the Armed Forces of Malta’s Air Wing and Maritime Squadron.

I most certainly do not agree with Mr. Fenech calling the United States a "warmonger nation". The US has its own national security interests to consider, and has the right and the obligation to act diplomatically and militarily as needed.Notice the key word is "security".Remember Sept.11 2001? Even as we speak Muslim terrorists are plotting to kill Americans .What would you have them do? Iran is getting nuclear weapons even as they chant "Death to America" .If it was not for countries like the USA and Britain and Canada and Australia and their "warmongering " I guarantee you that even we, in Malta, would not be free.We live in a very dangerous world, so be careful what you wish for sir,

Are you people serious? Do you not notice the amount of marines in paceville when they are there and the amount of girls that randomly appear from the cracks of the walls? And have you ever seen proof of the actual good dead's that they are supposedly doing? All I have ever seen them do is role in to Paceville and get drunk and than sleep around!

If the girls / women did not flock to Paceville to see the Marines, and if the girls / women just said NO, then the Marines would not be able to sleep around. Do the Marines force the girls / women to sleep with them ??? Or are the girls / women just looking for a good time, just like the Marines ??

..just like any other bunch of guys in their time off. We have great nightlife. The locals love it, the tourists love it, the "english students" love it and even the illegal immigrants love it. No reason why the Sailors can't enjoy it too!
Sounds to me like sour grapes!

Tricia Brincat tell it to its marines Tricia. They are unwanted and unwelcome because they represent a warmonger nation and are warmongers.

Tricia - it is nice to know that God lives among us and passes judgement sweepingly on everyone isn't it? Remember what happens to people who try to become God or become his equal.

This US Navy vessel is protecting merchant shipping off the coast of Somalia. In doing so, it will also be protecting vital aid supplies to impoverished African states which are run by dictators and their militias who could also happen to be very rich too !!
I have reservations about military indoctrination and what it does to human psychology, whether its the service personel but also to civilians, but will join Ms. Tricia Brincat and welcome USS Laboon to Malta.
"Fra Jake" was a very brave man indeed.
