Fried egg jellyfish in season
The innocuous fried egg jellyfish, known locally as Qassata or Tal-Lampuki, is in season, albeit in smaller numbers this year, the International Oceanography Institute says.
Hundreds of fried egg jellyfish (Cotylorhiza tuberculata) have been spotted and reported by the public as part of the Spot the Jellyfish campaign along different Maltese coastal areas, especially around Comino, the north coast of Gozo, Wied iż-Żurrieq and Marsascala.
Despite its size, the fried egg jellyfish is innocuous and its occurrence is short-lived, normally extending till the start of October at most.

thks for highlighting jellyfish sightings yet again - The Times is showing that it believes in the value of promoting marine biology aspects and this is laudable - the fried egg jellyfish photo shown in the article should be credited to IOI-MOC staff, who have been painstakingly working on the Spot the Jellyfish programme since late May -
