Business delegation travels to Romania next month

A business delegation led by Foreign Minister Tonio Borg will accompany President George Abela on a state visit to Romania next month.

The commercial delegation, the sixth of its kind in this legislature following trade missions to Portugal, Ukraine, Poland, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, is being organised by the Foreign Office and Malta Enterprise.

Maltese businesses are still able to apply to join the delegation, for which one-to-one meetings with Romanian businesses are currently being organised. The sectors being targeted mostly are renewable energy, environmental services, transport and logistics, education and training, tourism, and ICT. The Foreign Office continues its efforts to facilitate the endeavours of the commercial sector overseas. The government has signed, ratified or entered into force 23 agreements that facilitate direct foreign investment.

These agreements consist of 18 on the removal of double taxation, three on the protection and promotion of investments, and two on the removal of the visa.

These agreements form part of a total of 99 with a number of different countries.
