Lower LRP, unleaded petrol prices announced
A table showing the revision in prices as announced by Enemalta this morning.
The price of unleaded and lead replacement petrol has gone down 2c while that of diesel has remained the same, Enemalta Corporation announces this morning.
It said in a statement that these revisions reflect the prices fetched by Enemalta for the latest shipments of imported fuel.

I'm a little surprised that even though this article is announcing a DECREASE in price, people are still complaining! You know, if you don't want to pay for your car's fuel, there are tons of other options. Cycling is one of them. Or you could get a small 125cc motorbike, where €5 fills the entire tank and lasts more than a week of heavy usage.
Or, if you love cars so much, you could invest in an electric car. NOT A HYBRID, but a pure electric car that uses no on-board fuel at all. Sure we don't have any proper electric cars right now (the reva's top speed is only 65km/hr and the Tesla Roadster is not available in Malta), but things should hopefully change within the next few years.
And before anyone asks me where the electricity for charging the car comes from, please note:
1. You don't have to use the power station. Solar panels or wind turbine on your roof would work
2. One power station can be made a lot more efficient (typically 42%) than a car engine ever can (35% efficient at best), so it'd still be a step in the right direction.

Come to the UK and pay the highest rate for fuel in Europe , and yes thats produced from our own oil fields in the North Sea.
We all know as cars have become more fuel efficient so the price goes up. And oil companies get away with it because as thay increase their prices so the Governments get more tax. Legal robbery, at least Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask.

@John Forster: Are you sure that the UK has the highest prices? The prices in the Netherlands are among the highest, if not the highest of all.

It's rather frustrating to see the prices we pay for unleaded petrol where this summer I payed 87c per litre in Tenerife for the same petrol.

Well not bad getting a price reduction! But how long will this last before it goes up again...and most probably that it will go up with twice what it was reduced now.
Anyway, what I would like to know is why do we pay these high prices for fuels that are the cheapest on the market?
Probably our prices are in league with that of FIVE STAR premium grade in UK, but the one in UK has a known octane value and it is what it is said to be...premium!
Ours on the other hand has no octane value, smells like paraffin, has no stars and is definitely NOT premium!
SO WHY DO WE PAY SUCH HIGH PRICES FOR CHEAP QUALITY FUEL???????

Well, well, well . A price decrease is announced and the politically biased still moan !!! On another page they call the government black and blue because of the price increase in gas and here they do the same . What hypocrisy is that ? When will they learn that in this day and age there can be no more stupid subsidies. People have to learn to cut their garment according to the cloth . Its amazing how quickly people forget. In the days of the PL governments you could not even buy a bar of chocolate wether you had the money or not. Now we have everything that anyone could wish for but we don't want to pay for it . Maltese mentality at its best or worst whichever way one looks at it !!!!!!

Grow up would you. people complain not because of the political party involved but because its a laught in the face to increase the price of gas by 20-35 cents and then decrease petrol by 2 cents!
How funny, in Malta when you compare the price increases vs price decreases!

"Now we have everything that anyone could wish for but we don't want to pay for it" should have read: "Now we have everything that anyone could wish for but we can't afford it".

On 1st Aug I asked a question but still without answer. The question was "In Nov 2009 the petrol price (CIF Med, Prem Unl 10ppm) was at $700.29/MT and the price of unleaded was €1.120. How come with the price in the same Platts index prices and the price of unleaded is €1.220? This is evidenced on http://www.enemalta.com.mt/page.asp?n=newsdetailssearch&i=1742 which is the Jan 2010 prices revision. Why is the public being robbed of 10c per litre?" Price of petrol is still based on the Platts index so the question still stands.

The decrease of €0.02 is equal to a few old mils which went out of distribution long time before we introduced the euro. So who are we trying to kid here? I take this as an insult and it would have been better had Enemalta refrained from announcing any change in unleaded petrol at all. Why are the citizens being treated like morons over and over again?

Ok, it's not going to break the bank, but for curiousity's sake, when do these lower prices come into effect? I bought unleaded petrol just this morning and paid 1.22/litre. It just seems that when prices go up, the change is immediate whereas when the boot's on the other foot.... you know, the consumer gets kicked with it.

Forgot that yesterday Gas price increased Karl? And I think it’s you agree also that Gas price don’t go down either. So don’t you think that this decrease was to conceal yesterday Gas increase Karl? Now in few weeks time fuel prices will go up again and gas remain the same price. (Or probably, will be at a higher price). And to put salt on wound we will hear the price index statistics that cost of living decreased from the previous month. And again you will be cheering and blogging to such news.

Il-punt krucjali f'din il-kwistjoni kollha mhuwiex li l-petrol ser jorhos imma li ghandna Gvern li tilef id-direzzjoni anke fejn jidhlu kwistjonijiet ta' energija alternattiva. Filwaqt li nibqghu ntambru li l-prezz internazzjonali taz-zejt qieghed dejjem joghla u li ahna rridu naggustaw irwiehna ma' dak li qed jigri barra minn xtutna, fl-istess waqt nibqghu b'idejna fuq zaqqna meta nigu biex niehdu mizuri konkreti li jincentivaw uzu ahjar ta' sorsi ta' energija alternattiva.
Ir-rohs fil-prezz tal-fuel mhuwiex rohs li qed isir matul is-sena kollha imma huma rohs tal-mument li certament ser jitpatta b'zieda qawwija fl-istess prezz fix-xhur li gejjin. Hemm bzonn li naqbdu l-barri minn qrunu. Jien ninsab perswaz li t-tmexxija gdida tal-PL ser tkun kapaci taghmel dan mill-bankijiet tal-Gvern wara l-elezzjoni generali li jmiss!

and we used to giggle when in the 70's "lejber" government would announce that a tin of corned beef became cheaper by 5 mils! At least we knew where we stood at that time... today everything is uncertain with large companies ( read gas importers and energy provider) gobbling up our meagre COLA adjustments.
