Local road works programme well underway

Video: Mark Zammit Cordina

Works are being carried out on 475 roads in 49 localities in the coming months, at an investment of €14 million, Parliamentary Secretary for local councils Chris Said said.

A list of roads benefitting from the works was announced at the beginning of last month but since then works on another 27 roads in Zebbug and Xaghra were approved.

Dr Said said that since the list was announced, there were developments on 342 roads with works being concluded on 30 local roads. Work was being carried out on 21 roads and in the case of another 109, the tenders were adjudicated and work is to start shortly.

A total of 80 tenders for works on another 109 roads were currently being adjudicated and a call for tenders has been issued for works on 102 roads.

Dr Said said that this showed that the government was giving councils the necessary tools to implement their programmes.

Thank you @ George Debono!! :-) Some one open minded at least!
Sur J. Farrugia must try one day to ride a bicycle in one of our fabulous main roads with cars passing by full speed, and see how safe it is! :S

Hekk baqa' jonqos mhux bizzejjed li t-toroq qed idejquhom, bicycle lanes jonqos. Ir-roti jridu jsuqu mal-vetturi xejn inqas xejn izjed. U jsuqu bil-galbu. Irringrazzjaw l Alla li qed isiru diversi toroq biex hadd ma jibqa jgerger li mhawnx toroq tajbin. Geremija.

I agree with you and may i add that some people like to take their chairs and sit on the narrow pavement with no regard to someone passing by.Also on this subject of pavements why are most of them slanted in front of the garages, is this permitted by law, as they are very dangerous.

Jiddispjacini hafna meta nisma kummenti bhall dawn...... Ahna l-Maltin jekk ma jsir xejn ingergru u jekk isir xi haga ingergru ukoll. Hudu gost li qed jigu rragati t-toroq. Ikun min ikun hemm fil-gvern. It-toroq mhux politika.

Note that it is the local council which must apply for road works to be carried out, and not the Gov't.
