Waterpolo players charged
Four waterpolo players were this morning granted bail after they pleaded not guilty to a series of charges following last Saturday’s game between St Julian’s and Neptunes.
Dean Camilleri, 30 and Carl Galea, 29, who play for St Julian’s and Stephen Camilleri, 23, who plays for Neptunes, were charged with threatening someone at the Tal-Qroqq National Pool, using foul language in public, breaching the peace, disobeying police orders and insulting others.
Mr D. Camilleri also pleaded not guilty to breaching probation conditions
In a separate arraignment, Rainer Scerri, 22, who plays for St Julian’s pleaded not guilty to attempting to seriously injure Stefano Camilleri.
He also pleaded not guilty to threatening someone with a stone, using vulgar language, breaching the peace, threatening beyond the limits of provocation and disobeying police orders.
All four were granted bail against a personal guarantee of €500 each and ordered not to visit the national pool except for training and team matches.

The St Julians ASC committee should take note of this incident. The players accused, D Camilleri and R Scerri are in charge of the Nursery. Definetly this is not the right example to be given to our youngsters and more thought should be given to who is assigend to coach the kids for the benefit of the sport itself!!!

Exactly spot on! In Malta for a first offence you will always get a probation or suspended sentence. In order to get to jail you must have an aweful lot of suspended sentences... That is why this country is sinking fast. The law of the jungle rules!

Quite recently, some Spanish or Italians were given 6 months suspended jail term for skinny dipping at 3am, not doing any harm to anyone.
Well, it looks like Maltese law is very different when it comes to Maltese people, who were threatening others with stones and using foul language in public in front of others.
Where's justice I'm asking?

Do not jump the gun, they have just been arraigned not sentenced. You have to wait and see whether they will get off with a lesser sentence than that incurred by the skinny dipping students.
It is amazing that people comment on news stories without bothering to read AND understand the article that they are commenting about.

So are any of these players going to be suspended by the ASA if they are found guilty or will they be allowed to get away with this completely ?
Nice message we are sending to our kids: Play waterpolo you can actually attack your opponents, threaten them with a stone, create mayhem and get totally away with it! Pathetic!

The decision by the courts that "ordered not to visit the national pool except for training and team matches" is aimed at not allowing San Giljan players to attend the Sliema vs Neptunes decider, whilst allowing the players to train and play there without any problems. Very obvious and sensible I think.

So these were players were charged in court only after three days and the person at the helm of the yacht that sunk the boat and a man lost his life is still free.

That is really simple, isn't it? If there's a casualty involved, the authorities need to investigate what happened, and who is to blame, before prosecuting.
What would you suggest? That someone is locked up without due process?
