A truck carrying a large buoy got stuck beneath the footbridge that spans Aldo Moro Road in Marsa at about 2 p.m. yesterday.

Fortunately, it managed to slowly squeeze its way through and the carriageway was cleared by 3.15 p.m.

This was the latest in a series of similar incidents that have befallen the bridge. The structure hit the headlines last week when a truck transporting heavy machinery almost crashed into it, with the driver stopping at the last moment. In July, a trailer transporting a container did the same thing.

But in April, a trailer carrying an excavator actually did hit it, bringing traffic on the busy thoroughfare to a standstill and causing damage to the underside of the bridge. Vehicles carrying high objects are by law obliged to be escorted by the police or a Transport Malta official.
