After reading the contribution by Fr Charlo’ Camilleri O. Carm one tends to be more confused and uncertain whether voting for divorce goes against the teaching of Christ and of His Catholic Church and, consequently, is a grave sin.

Fr Camilleri quoted part of number 2383, which is in small print, of The Cathecism of the Catholic Church which states, “If civil divorce remains the only possible way of ensuring certain legal rights, the care of children or the protection of inheritance, it can be tolerated and does not constitute a moral offence”.

Can Fr Camilleri enlighten us about when this loophole can be applied and when voting for divorce can be beneficial for the common good? Since Fr Camilleri finally mentioned that a Catholic politician can, according to his conscience, vote in favour of divorce, does that apply also to every person who considers himself Christian and Catholic and has to vote in a referendum?
