Qormi have concluded talks with Birkirkara over the transfer of George Mallia.
The 31-year-old midfielder has been the subject of interest from a number of Premier League clubs after negotiations with Birkirkara over a new contract broke down a few months back, but Qormi intensified their efforts last week to agree a transfer fee with the Stripes.
At Qormi, Mallia will be reunited with coach Stephen Azzopardi after the two worked together at Birkirkara.
Mallia, who has 64 caps for Malta, was presented to the Qormi fans during a social activity held last Friday, the club said in a statement.
News of Mallia’s move to Qormi will surely have raised the morale of the club’s supporters who are keen for their team to build on their positive campaign last season.
In 2009/10, Qormi played in the Championship Pool and narrowly failed to qualify for the Europa League after losing a play-off against Sliema Wanderers.
They also reached the U*Bet FA Trophy final last season, going down 2-1 to Valletta.
Qormi also announced yesterday that goalkeeper Matthew Camilleri has signed a new one-year contract.
