BlackBerry remains most popular smartphone - Vodafone
BlackBerry continues to outpace sales of any other smartphone on the Maltese market, according to Vodafone figures.
Vodafone launched the BlackBerry around two years ago and part of its strategy to attract more customers to its community of smartphone users, Vodafone Malta has priced the BlackBerry Curve 8520 at €270.
This smartphone was an instant hit particularly with students and is offered for free to anyone who enters into a two-year contract with Vodafone.
It also offered customers a 50 per cent discount on the BlackBerry Bold 9700 smartphone.
This special one-time offer was part of Vodafone’s celebrations to mark an increase in BlackBerry sales.
The demand for BlackBerry, Vodafone said, was so extensive that the offer was taken up in just four hours.

I am sure that they are not accounting the sale of other phones from ebay. Surely BB is not the most popular smartphone.

@Michael Aquilina Agree. I find it very strange that BB is most popular smartphone. I know 1 person who owns one. Others own Apple or HTC. Re: 'The demand for BlackBerry, Vodafone said, was so extensive that the offer was taken up in just four hours'. In four (4) hours - how many sets were available ? or was it one of those offers of 'sorry just sold the last one'.

i find that very strange since i know very few students who actually own a blackberry. Its mostly a combination of iphones and nokias. More recently i have noticed a lot of students purchasing android devices such as the HTC Desire too.

Yet we are still unable to use BB Appworld in Malta though they have opened a beta programme to Rwanda. Its matters like this that make you realise just how insignificant Malta's size is and how poor the efforts of our service providers have been in lobbying to enable an EU member state to participate in BB AppWorld!
