Chief Justice Vincent DeGaetano last Monday presided over his last sitting at the Gozo Courts in its jurisdiction as the Court of Appeal of Criminal Judicature. He has been assigned to the hearing of Gozo cases since 1995, first as judge and then as Chief Justice.

The sitting was followed by a reception in recognition for the contribution of the Chief Justice at the judiciary bench as well as to wish him success in his new role as a judge at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

The Chief Justice addressed those present and thanked them for their contribution during the hearing of the cases. Court directress Mary Debono-Borg thanked the Chief Justice for all his support. A toast was made in his honour, during which the most senior lawyer present, Carmelo Galea, on behalf of his colleagues, thanked the Chief Justice for his impeccable service at the Gozo bench.

The Chief Justice also paid a courtesy visit to Gozo Bishop Mario Grech at the Curia in Victoria.
