Austin Bencini, a board member of the company managing The Times, should declare the source for his false allegations – against both Labour leader Joseph Muscat and Labour MP Owen Bonnici – made in his article titled A Sin Against Democracy, (August 24).

These can at best be described as malicious and, at worst, outright lies, given both persons’ well known and documented opposition to abortion and euthanasia, among other items listed by Dr Bencini.

Dr Bencini’s loaded allegations are quite simply deplorable. A retraction and apology is in order.
