Troubled Hollywood starlet Lindsay Lohan has been released from rehab after serving just three weeks of her six-month sentence over a drunk-driving case, a judge.

At a court hearing in Beverly Hills, Judge Eldon Fox said Ms Lohan had been released, but that tabs would be kept on the starlet for the next two months.

“If all conditions are met by November 1, she will be allowed unsupervised probation and permitted to live elsewhere, including outside California,” Judge Fox said at Los Angeles County Superior Court hearing in Beverly Hills.

Ms Lohan was sentenced on July 6 to serve 90 days in jail and another 90 days in rehab for violating her probation in a drunk-driving case.

Due to jail overcrowding, however, she served just 13 days behind bars, before being released to the detox facility.

Ms Lohan was not present at Wednesday’s hearing, but her attorney Shaw Chapman Holley said her client was well on her way to fulfilling all the conditions of her ­sentence, and is a changed woman.

“Ms Lohan is serious about her sobriety,” Chapman Holley said in court. She is very serious and has learned her lesson.”

The attorney later told journalists she was hopeful Ms Lohan could create a new life for herself after 22 days of rehab treatment.

“I am hoping this is a new beginning for Ms Lohan. She has completed everything that has been asked of her,” Chapman Holley added. “I am hoping this will allow her to move forward in her work life.”

“She’s healthy, clear-headed, positive,” she added.

The actress had an earlier visit three years ago when she was arrested for driving under the influence.

Ms Lohan was arrested again two months after that for drunk driving and cocaine possession but served a mere 84 minutes in jail after the arrests.

The court was less forgiving at last month’s hearing, when Ms Lohan was found to have violated the conditions of her parole and ordered to begin serving her jail sentence on July 20.

The queen of Hollywood nights and a favourite target of the paparazzi, the former Disney child star was once considered one of the most promising actresses of her generation.

But Ms Lohan’s career has dipped many times since 2005 amid legal woes, stops in rehab and cinematic flops.

In 2008, the star of The Parent Trap, Mean Girls and Bobby received two Razzie Awards, the satirical prizes presented to Hollywood’s worst acting performances.
