Mosta (U-10) and Valletta (U-9) represented the Malta International Airport at a children’s tournament in Austria.
The two teams earned the right to participate in this event after winning their respective categories in a Football Festival organised by the MIA last April.
Teams from Slovakia, Hungary, Malta and various parts of Austria took part in the ASK-BSC Bruck Tournament at the Bruck Stadium last weekend. The venue was ideal for the football extravaganza which was thoroughly enjoyed by all participants, officials and parents who travelled to Vienna for the event.
The tournament was a positive experience for the Maltese teams, both in terms of results achieved and for the opportunity it afforded the young players to test themselves against their foreign peers.
Both Mosta and Valletta placed second in Saturday’s round of games. The following day, Mosta figured in the older U-11 age-group whereas Valletta competed in the Under-10 category.
Also on Sunday, Mosta and Valletta were involved in a series of matches in the U-10 age-group. The ‘derby’ match saw Mosta beat Valletta 2-0.
“This was an experience MIA offered the children in line with its policy of promoting sportsmanship among the future generation and providing opportunities for international exposure and exchanges in the practice of this popular sport at such a young age,” the MIA said in a statement.
