England yesterday named an experienced team to take part in next month’s New Delhi Commonwealth Games, including double European champion Mo Farah.
The 27-year-old, who struck gold over 5,000 and 10,000 metres at the European Championships in Barcelona in July, will race over both distances in India.
Farah said: “I’m really looking forward to the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
“After an amazing season, two gold medals in the European Championships and a new British 5,000m record, I hope to finish a fantastic summer season with another good performance in India.”
He was joined by fellow European champions 110m hurdler Andy Turner and Phillips Idowu, who will be defending his triple jump crown.
Olympic 400m champion Christine Ohuruogu, who missed the European Championships with a quad injury, was also included in the 100-strong team of athletes and will defend the title she won in Melbourne four years ago at the Games which get under way on October 3.
World and European heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis, who ended her season after taking gold in Barcelona, had long made it known she would not be going to India.
