Xlendi expenses ‘to be paid for’
All those involved in the construction mishap that left Xlendi Bay contaminated with sewage for five days have been asked to pay for the expenses incurred, the Gozo Ministry said.
The parties concerned have been sent a legal letter requesting payment, a ministry spokesman said when contacted, without specifying who the parties were or what they were going to pay for.
The bay popular with locals and tourists alike was closed for bathing earlier this month after a main sewage pipe broke during works carried out on Xlendi Road leading to untreated drainage to flow into the bay.

Why did the ministry for Gozo have to serve a legal letter to make the contractor pay? Just deduct the cost of the damage from the final payment. Simple Watson!!!!. And PLEASE let the public know how much the taxpayer saved from this mishap. Otherwise, Mr Tyrell would be perfectly right.

@leo attard. You are 100% correct sir. This is nothing more than a show for the press due to the fact that they realised their earlier decision not to fine the contractors had not gone down too well. The fine will certainly not be millions or hundreds of thousands of Euros or anything like it. It will be a token amount, which as you say will soon be recouped by adding it into the next contract that is awarded in a 'totally transparent' way.

@mr Finch------- the consrtruction company will end up paying a fine for damages incurred, but in the long run they'll probably get their money back -- and then some --- when the Gozo Ministry offers them another job in the future.

So they will be paying at least hundreds of thousands if not millions of euros no?
