Migrant re-arrested
A Palestinian man who escaped from the Safi detention centre early last May was re-arrested on Saturday and jailed yesterday for six months.
In the arraignment, Namel Hamida, 30, aided by legal aid lawyer Mark Mifsud Cutajar, admitted to escaping and Magistrate Antonio Vella passed sentence taking into consideration his early guilty plea.
Police Inspector Mario Haber prosecuted.

Can we know what this Palestinian is doing at the Safi detention centre?????? Palestinians are spread all over the middle east. Do we expect to give these people refuge too.??
The people are being left in the dark about the positions of these refugees. What is the Govt doing? Other Govts seems to have moved in one direction or the other. Here nothing is forthcoming.

of course we give them refuge if they are entitled to it.

I love it. A foreign man whose crime is escaping from a (non-criminal) detention centre is given a custodial sentence of 6 months. Another foreign man who drives without a license, while drunk, and ends up smashing other people's property and probably endangering life, plus attempting to escape police custody, gets off with a suspended sentence (see article on Swede's drunken rampage). The justice system in this country makes no sense at all.

I don,t know why he bothered to come to Malta, he would have been much happier if he stayed in Libya instead.
