As lifecyclists experienced their longest and coldest day in the challenge so far travelling 246 kilometres from Charleroi to Dunkerque in France, they also made an urgent appeal for donations.
During this morning’s briefing, Lifecycle challenge chairman Alan Curry urged the cyclists to stay in groups and to save energy by riding exactly one after the other so as to lessen wind resistance and increase speed.
The front cyclist then retires to the back of the line after five to 10 minutes of being at the front.
The French local press made their appearance today on the route’s third checkpoint near Orchies.
Journalists from La Voix du Nord were tipped off about the challenge by the owner of a bakery who saw the cyclists at the first checkpoint.
The French has shown massive interest in this challenge with the locals continually admiring and expressing support along the way.
A police escort has already been organised to escort the cyclists tomorrow to the port of Dunquerqe to catch the 8 a.m. ferry to Dover, in the UK.
