Boy injured by fireworks

An 11-year-old boy from Kirkop was seriously injured by fireworks in a field at his hometown, yesterday at about 4 p.m., the police said.

The police started investigating after they were informed that a boy was admitted to Mater Dei Hospital suffering from burns.

Investigations indicated that the boy was probably picking up fireworks leftovers when the accident happened.

Further investigations are in progress to establish the circumstances of the incident.

The police said that although the boy suffered serious injuries, these were not life threatening.

left overs from fire works are the debris that fall unexploded or burnt from the firework, one can never know where they will fall due to the explosion and the wind. I remember when I was his age I used to go gathering the unexploded petards and unburnt color pellets. By the way the fireworks team would have already have burnt (with permission) the surrounding fields to avoid such accidents however no one is perfect and boys that age will always tend to do such things.
