A member of the Betfair Life Cycle team will today receive temporary travel documents to enable him to continue on his journey to the UK after he lost his passport last week during the cyclists’ trip through Germany.

Malta’s ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg, Clive Agius, arranged to send a car on a 60-kilometre drive to reach the team in Luxembourg and give Lewis Holland the vital document.

The Life Cycle team began their journey in Venice, passing through mainland Europe, with their final destination being Manchester.

The team entered the sixth day of the journey but getting to Luxembourg was the “hardest day of all”, with cyclists complaining of tiredness, saddle sores and pains in their muscles and joints.

During their stay in Luxembourg they were interviewed by journalists and visited the town’s school together with the mayor.

“Spirits are still high especially as today is a short day and more than half the challenge is done both in days and mileage,” a spokesman for the group said. LifeCycle is raising money for the renal patients of Malta and this year hopes to collect enough to help outpatients at the renal unit by providing permanent transport to and from the hospital as well as giving money to the Kidney Organisation to help fund cures.

Donations can be made through www.lifecyclechallenge.com or by texting 5061 7370 to donate €2.33, 5061 8920 for €7 and 5061 9229 for €11.65. One can also phone 5004 9065 to give €10, 5004 9060 for €20 on 5004 9063 for €50.
