Bugibba had its own summer carnival this weekend - and it was a success.

Locals and tourists of all ages packed the seaside town, some of them in costume, to watch the floats and carnival companies, which entertained with their dances in colourful costumes, as well as the traditional gostra, a greasy pole up which people climbed to try to catch the three flags at the top, which they could then exchange for prizes.

This was the first year that a specific summer carnival was organised but for a number of years the main carnival in Malta used to be held in May.
