The Employment and Training Corporation has launched the ‘I Can’ campaign aimed at supporting a multi-faceted programme which focuses on increasing employability.

Targeting the unemployed, unskilled workers, people who do not hold formal qualifications or certificates, people seeking to upgrade their skills, students and apprentices, and the self-employed, the campaign is funded through the European Social Fund.

The employability programme supported by the campaign incorporates initiatives and programmes open to the public and offered by the ETC for free.

Programmes include schemes aimed at strengthening participants’ skills at various levels, including assisting registered unemployed to acquire the know-how related to job-seeking, interviewing and services offered by governmental and non-governmental agencies related to job-seeking, and personal skills.

Separate programmes look at helping participants develop basic skills, which would help people to participate in training programmes.

One scheme within the campaign incorporates training programmes which deliver specific skills needed by the labour market.

It covers a wide range of competences including secretarial skills, woodworking, metal machining, information technology, electronics, hospitality, shipping, care working and many more.

The employability programme also includes schemes designed to assist individuals obtain certification for prior learning.

Through the programme, the ETC offers traineeships which include on- and off-the-job training.
