Job with a view

Members of the Civil Protection Department removed a window pane from a dilapidated wooden balcony that was literally crumbling in St Paul Street, Valletta, yesterday. Parts of the structure had been hanging dangerously and could only be removed using long ladders.

Why from public funds? Who owns the block or flat in question for that matter?

Indeed, and in the meantime let a glass pane fall onto the passers by down below, right !!

You would probably not be able to sue the owners for quite some time, as we seem to be running out of Judges. 4 retired in the space of a few weeks and no replacement on line.

Who owns the said building and other similar buildings?
They should be held responsable.

Valletta might have been built by gentlemen for gentlemen, but unfortunatly the gentlemen for whom Valletta was built were of a past age, and long forgotten.
Todays crop of gentlemen are not of that calibre, and the results are what you see.

Probably the gentlemen you are mentioning are landlords who have forgotten their roots living in a villa while they do not move a euro to upkeep their property in Valletta. This is common not just in Valletta but in other towns throughout the island. The goverment should step in and take over the buildings after some warnings.

So many beautiful and noble buildings are crumbling in the city built by gentlemen for gentlemen. If you're in Valletta, try looking up instead of down or straight ahead. It is a revelation.

Mr Sammut as much as I agree with you to look up to see the dilapidated state of some buildings, I also agree that one views the beauty of what is being restored. However the last time I was looking up to view the beauty & the beast of the city, I ended up flat on my face as I tripped over the uneven ground! Now that I really call looking down...too close though for my liking! lol lol Then if one suddenly stops to view...people crash into you from behind or the sides...so yeah! what shall it be? Tricky question...i say...but i'd rather have a human crash than a faced down landing!

Ms Farrugia, has it crossed your mind to stop for a few moments to look up? I wouldn't be walking without looking where I'm stepping in Valletta, or anywhere else for that matter.

Indeed, on some buildings, one could observe the sky when looking through the windows from street level. !! But having said that, hopefully Valletta will eventually shine in all its splendour once again. Progress is definitely on the way, in this regard.
A word of thanks to these brave members of the Civil Protection Department in removing such potential danger. You're always involved with potentially dangerous situations on your daily work. I know that for you, safety is always first. Keep it up CPD.
