Slightly fewer workplace accidents occurred between April and June than in the same quarter last year and there were no fatalities.
The National Statistics Office said 848 people had an accident at work during the period, 23 or 2.6 per cent less than in April-June 2009. Of these, 714 were men and 134 women. Last year there was one fatal accident during the same three months.
A total of 376 cases or 44.3 per cent of the accidents involved wounds and superficial injuries.
Most accidents, 23.8 per cent, occurred in the manufacturing industry, followed by 15.5 per cent in construction and 12.7 per cent in transport, storage and communication.
However, while the number of those taking place in manufacturing and construction fell by 10 and 31 per cent respec-tively, the number of accidents in transport, storage and communication rose by 11 per cent
Between April and June, 43.6 per cent of the accidents involved people under 35.
