A 22-year-old woman yesterday admitted throwing red paint on the façade of a friend’s house after she was not invited to the friend’s wedding.
The incident followed a tumultuous few months in which the accused had to deal with the sudden death of her fiancé who succumbed to injuries he suffered in an accident last October. It was her boyfriend who had introduced her to the man whose house door she daubed with paint and to his girlfriend.
The two couples had become good friends and had decided to get married two months apart. However, tragedy struck in October 2009 and the woman’s fiancé died two months later.
Her friends are due to get married in the coming weeks and informed her they still wanted her to attend their wedding. However, for some reason, she never received an invitation and retaliated by daubing red paint on the grooms’ house.
The woman deeply regretted the incident, adding that she was going through a very bad time. She had also paid €1,565 in damages to the groom.
Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera ordered a ban on the names of all the people involved in the case, especially the woman since she was seeking psychiatric help.
She placed the woman on probation for two years and issued a one-year protection order for the engaged couple, meaning the woman cannot approach them or speak to them during that period.
