Foreign equine specialists will discuss the plight of horses, especially those carrying carriages, with government officials in a visit to Malta next week.

The Transport and Welfare Studies Association, to which the experts belong, specialises in investigating the management of working animals. It first visited the island last year, following reports about the condition of horses. It had then forwarded a report to the relevant departments and said horses were still without the necessary basic requirements due to lack of cooperation by the government.

Representatives of the Animal Rights Group are expected to be present at the talks next week.
