Man wielding screwdriver steals cash
Some €500 were stolen this afternoon in a hold-up from a shop in St Anne Street..
A hooded man armed with a screwdriver entered the shop and demanded the cash from the salesgirl.
There were two persons in the shop at the time. No one was injured.
The police are investigating.

On one hand I don't blame him. He could't even afford a proper weapon.
On the other, I admire him for being clever. The use of a screwdriver could be used as an excuse to say that he entered the shop to fix something!

what is going on in this country? why all these hold ups are being done every day? is it money problem, maybe a cause of the growing poverty in this country? so some one needs to speak laud so he can be heard from those in higher places.

I don't understand why the police don't issue descriptions of the perpetrators in case the public can assist them with their enquiries.
Suppose this person was wearing a particular garment that could identify him on a cctv or other camera; or suppose that he was wearing a tee-shirt with something specific written on it, wouldn't a person who knows that criminal be able to point a finger so that the police can investigate?
The first thing a police officer asks when investigating something like this would be "Can you give us a description"

I don't think a "hooded" man would wear anything identifiable would he?!

I think with the many 'street crimes' we see every day in the news, more police foot patrols are needed in busy areas. Police driving in cars are virtually useless in deterring street crime.
