Zsa Zsa Gabor, the 93-year-old Hollywood star who has been hospitalised due to complications from a broken hip, refused a new operation was released from hospital on Monday and allowed to go home, her publicist said.

John Blanchette said doctors were ready to perform a liver operation, but gave up on the idea after the actress insisted she wanted to return to her Bel Air home.

Ms Gabor on Sunday had called a priest into her hospital room for her last rites.

A spokesman for Gabor’s daughter Francesca Hilton said all that Sunday the actress had been asking to be released from hospital.

“She wanted to be home. She was tired of it,” Ed Lozzi said.

Ms Gabor was taken to Ronald Reagan hospital on July 17 after she broke her hip getting out of bed. She was given an artificial hip and released, only to be readmitted two days later for blood clot surgery.

Mr Lozzi described Ms Gabor’s current health condition as “day-to-day.”

The Hungarian-born actress and former beauty queen’s lengthy film career includes spots in a dozen films and television series, including John Huston’s 1952 Moulin Rouge and the 1958 film noir Touch of Evil by Orson Welles. She lent her voice to several animated films and TV series.

But the platinum blonde is especially known for her flamboyant lifestyle, legal troubles, nine marriages and a propensity to call just about everyone “darling” with her distinctive accent.
