MCA raises targets for next day postal delivery

Quality of service targets proposed by the Communications Authority for Maltapost as the universal service provider lay down that 94 per cent of local ordinary mail and 98 per cent of registered local mail has to be delivered within one day.

The universal postal service encompasses the minimum range of services to be provided in Malta at an affordable price for the benefit of all users.

The QoS targets, in the main, are set as the percentage of postal items that should be delivered within one working day (D+1) from the date of deposit (the deposit must occur before the latest collection time notified i.e. 7 p.m. from Monday to Friday and 3 p.m. on a Saturday) to the delivery of the postal item to the addressee.

The MCA is proposing, amongst others, that the QoS targets for inland mail be revised upwards and cater also for loss and substantial delay. The proposed targets are shown in the table below (for comparison purposes the 2009/10 target is also being shown):

The MCA is also making proposals in relation to the code of practice (“Committed to Customer Care”) published by MaltaPost plc and for the latter to submit a more detailed annual report on the complaints received including any emerging and recurring issues and actions taken to correct them.

The consultation document can be accessed through the following link: http://www.mca.org.mt/newsroom/openarticle.asp?id=903 . The consultation period will run till the 17th September 2010.

@ T Camilleri

Never had any problems with my mail, past and present.

When it was a government department inefficiencies were paid off from our taxes to get your mail delivered. Now it's a private entity, makes good profits and doing the same and a better job with a smaller head count.

Read the foreign news and you will realise that very few postal organisations are making ends meet.

You are right Vince DeBono. I've also had my mail delivered to other persons and other persons mail delivered to me. I always give the mail to the person concerned because I wouldn't want to risk giving it back to the post while others have given me my mail delivered to them, but can I be sure that the same happens with all my mail?
