On Saturday, the Division One Malta Cricket Summer League continued with Krishna playing Overseas.
Krishna won the toss and elected to bat first. Robert Scerri and Andy Lenard opened the batting. Scerri was first to go being bowled by Peter Bradley for six runs. Adam Krishna was next in and next out being caught by Sean Duffy off the bowling of Roger Bradley.
Robert Krishna did not trouble the scorers, making a duck giving Bradley his second wicket. Bokram Arora blasted 18 runs before being bowled by Steve Jones.
Lenard’s incredible innings then came to an end, being bowled by Roger (his second wicket) for 58 runs. He was bowled on the 13th ball he faced. Had he survived Lenard would have retired and would have been able to go back in (local rule).
Sunny Krishna returned to the scene and proved he has not lost all his touch with the bat as he scored 15 runs, being trapped lbw by Duffy who also ended with two wickets.
Playing in his first summer league game, Mike Rawle (who has just returned from umpiring at the ICC European Under-17 Championships second division) made a single before being caught and bowled by Duffy.
Overseas gave away 37 extras which did not help their cause. The big positive they will take from the game is that they bowled out the Krishna side in 16-and-half overs. Krishna totalled 151 runs.
An outstanding bowling display from three of the Krishna players wrapped up the game for them. Overseas managed to score 32 runs only which included seven extras.
Bradley was the main scorer with 14 runs, followed by Phil Gibbs who scored eight. Duffy was the only other batsman who scored runs (three). There were four ducks in the innings.
The bowlers who took the wickets were Robert Krishna, who took three, Kevin Krishna with two while Adam Krishna and Mike Rawle took a wicket each.
Krishna earned 10 points for their win while Overseas gained their first two points.
On Saturday, Overseas will play leaders Melita at 10.30 a.m.
Standings: Melita 21 points; Marsa 17; Krishna 12; Overseas 2.
