Smoke pours out of a refuse truck at the yacht marina in Ta' Xbiex this morning.

The blaze was contained and stopped from causing serious damage to the truck thanks to prompt action by the driver, using a portable fire extinguisher. Yachtsmen also lent a hand with their fire extinguishers. Fire-fighters took over within minutes.

Yes I do happen to know something about heat combustion, which is why I would find it strange to occur from freshly collected refuse ? Very odd but nothing excluded of course since decomposition and time factors could play a role. Yet I don't recall other such heat combustion theories occuring in refuse trucks and this is not the first hot summer being experienced.
