Apple trees will tell visitors how to make cider at a new project in Cornwall.
Using audio technology, trail followers at National Trust property Cotehele will hear stories about the varieties of apples on show, tree breeding and the role of bees.
The project, funded by Defra’s Greener Living Fund, has recorded 15 audio clips with the help of the local community.
Visitors will be given an audio pen at the start of the trail and can use it to access the information as they go along.
Chris Groves, orchard officer at Cotehele, said: “The beauty of this device is that it allows people of all ages, particularly children, the freedom to learn outdoors and at their own pace.”
“We hope the trail will truly capture the imagination of many visitors to ensure that our orchards are protected forever, for everyone.”
The trail is open until January and then again from March 12, 2011.
