The planning authority has approved the extension of the quay at Lascaris Wharf, which will improve the berthing facilities of large cruise liners at Valletta Waterfront.

The project will align Lascaris Wharf with the adjoining Pinto Wharf and rehabilitate the area. The application was made by Transport Malta.

The new quay profile will be built off the seabed in pre-cast concrete segments, backfilled to the existing shoreline and overlaid with hard stone.

The quay is close to the old Customs House, which was built in the final years of the Knights of St John on the island and is scheduled as a Grade 1 building.
