The Vikings Sailing Club will be organising its annual sailing marathon between Friday and Sunday. Participants who enrolled in the Malta Sports Council ‘Sailing Summer’ scheme will be taking an active part in this marathon.

The aim of the marathon is to raise money for charity. This year, proceeds will go towards Puttinu Cares.

The club will have a number of dinghies, rigged and ready, all manned by trained sailors. These will be available to take visitors out for a half-hour sail round Marsamxett Harbour, supported by all the necessary safety considerations, from lifejackets to a rescue boat.

“The main idea is to give children being treated on the ward the chance to spend some time on these dinghies and enjoy themselves. The public is also invited to join in and come for a ride against a donation for these children,” marathon coordinator John Sammut said.

The marathon will be opened at the Vikings Sailing Club premises in Haywharf, Floriana (near the AFM Maritime Squadron) on Friday at 5 p.m. by Deputy Prime Minister Tonio Borg.

On Saturday evening, Mass will be celebrated, followed by a barbecue. Booking is recommended. Food and beverages will be available throughout the marathon.
