Hundreds of people filed past the body of Guido de Marco today in silent tribute to the former President and long-serving politician.
The flow of people at the Palace in Valletta was constant, with some mourners pausing briefly to say a prayer and recall their memories of one of Malta's best known politicians.
The body will lie in state today until 7 p.m. and tomorrow until noon. The state funeral will start with a cortège at 2.40 p.m. for St John's Co-Cathedral, where Archbishop Paul Cremona will lead Mass at 3.30 p.m.
The coffin will then be carried on a gun carriage as the cortège continues up Merchants' Street to Castille Place and down Gilormu Cassar Avenue.
It will head to the Addolorata Cemetery via Hamrun, enabling the people of the locality where Prof de Marco lived for many years, to give him their final farewell.
