A number of road closures and diversions will be in place today and on Monday in connection with the state funeral of former President Guido de Marco, Transport Malta said yesterday.

Merchants, St Christopher, Pope Pius V, Cavalier and Ordnance streets in Valletta as well as Castille Place will be closed between 5 and 11 a.m. today. Parking will not be allowed along St Paul Street, which will be used exclusively by the funeral cortege as it heads towards Castille Place.

On Monday Ġilormu Cassar Avenue, St Anne Street and Crucifix Hill in Floriana will be closed, along with St Joseph High Road from the Fleur de Lys junction up to the Fra Diego junction in Ħamrun.

From 4.30 p.m., buses going towards Valletta will be diverted through E.S. Tonna Square and Sarria Street in Floriana.

Buses leaving Valletta and going through Pietà and Msida will proceed through King Edward VII avenue, Ix-Xagħra tal-Furjana, V. Dimech Street, San Kalċidonju Street (in front of Police Headquarters), Sa Maison Street, Haywharf (where the Gozo ferry berths), W. Bonnici and Marina street towards Msida.

Buses from Valletta going to either Marsa or Ħamrun will proceed in the same way as buses driving to Pietà and Msida, followed by Independence and National roads

Buses from Mdina Road, Mrieħel/Sta Venera and Fleur-de-Lys Street, Fleur-de-Lys in the direction of High Road in Ħamrun will be diverted to either Cannon Road, Sta Venera Road or Psaila Street, Birkirkara.
